Forklift Danceworks and the City of Austin’s Aquatics Division teamed up to create a show that highlights the workers and caretakers of Austin’s 50+ public pools. Dox, in collaboration with Forklift Danceworks and Violet Crown Cinema, produced a short documentary highlighting Paul Slutes, one of the Aquatics Division’s lead mechanics who decades ago started as a lifeguard at 13 years old. We rode along with him for several days during the madness of summer, watching him work tirelessly to keep Austin’s aging pools running. His thoughts on the meaning and importance of public pools to the citizens of Austin shed light on a service that is often taken for granted.

"You asked me why I've been doing this so long. It boils down to the community that I grew up in and the community that I love."
