MOMMA JEANS

Produced for Texas Monthly’s Small Town Smokers video series, we traveled to Lampasas, Texas to visit Johnny Walker, pitmaster and owner of Momma Jeans BBQ. We couldn’t have met a more down-to-earth, genial, and talented man. Johnny grew up in South Dallas in the 60’s, and has been around Texas BBQ long enough to have formed profound insights. We discussed issues big and small, and came away with a deeper, more nuanced perspective of Texas BBQ and its history. But what about the BBQ at Momma Jeans, you ask? Yeah, it’s top notch.
